Our approach to technology exploitation is enabled by four key outputs from Business Change which enable us to undertand who is responsible for doing what, and the information and functionality people need to perform their wok. These four outputs are:
These inputs allow creation of an information architecture and a high level portal design. The portal brings together the information and functionality need by each role within the business to support its operation.
The main categories of portal components we use are shown in the diagram below. The combination of components used, and the information and functionality they expose is totally dependent on organisational roles and the business activities those roles involve.
The portal design provides a valuable framework for management of development effort and to support communication between the business and supporting technology functions.
It clearly defines the functionality and information needed to support the business, and allows incremental development over time of the mechanisms through which that information and functionality can be provided.
